When MI visited Banda Escolar de Guayanilla (BEG) in March many of the students in their marching band were wearing t-shirts celebrating their upcoming trip to California and the Tournament of Roses. Our students really liked their shirts! BEG created these shirts as a fundraiser. Our students thought these shirts would be popular here and could also sell them as a fundraiser to support BEG’s effort to attend the Tournament of Roses Parade. The shirts are exactly the same as the BEG shirts except, on the back we replaced the BEG logo with the combined MI/BEG logo.
Use this form to order your shirt! T-Shirt Order Form
Shirts ordered before May 18 will be delivered prior to school ending. Shirts ordered after May 18 will be delivered at band camp in August.
Thank you for your support.
We marched with Banda Escolar de Guayanilla from Puerto Rico in 2012. We were thrilled to see them on the list of bands invited to march at the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2019. Over the winter break, we learned that their trip is now in jeopardy because of the after effects of Hurricane Maria which struck 2 weeks after they accepted the Tournament of Roses invitation.
Banda Escolar de Guayanilla (English: School Bands of Guayanilla) is a world class band that has performed in many global music venues. They are just like us in that capacity. They just need support because of this hurricane and its after effects.
We are working on creating an effective and meaningful support campaign for both of our communities. We do not yet know what this partnership will look like. We want it to be student connected, student driven, and based on what Banda Escolar de Guayanilla and the Guayanilla community actually needs.
We DO know that financial support is always necessary, for any band program operating at our level. So, if you feel moved to support Banda Escolar de Guayanilla, we know that they would appreciate a donation of funds.
Your donation is tax deductible through our Mercer Island Schools Band Boosters.
On behalf of Banda Escolar de Guayanilla, our MIHS Band student leadership, and our MISD Band community, THANK YOU!
